Modern agriculture has seen an increasing use of chemical fertilizers. Over time, however, mineral fertilizers have a compounding, negative effect on all soils, including decomposing native mineral and organic matter, suppression of native soil microbes, salts accumulation and changes to natural pH levels. Chemical fertilizers also leach into ground water, streams, and lakes resulting in major problems like eutrophication (an increase in an ecosystem’s primary productivity due to leaching of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds resulting in adverse ecological affects). Some nitrogen fertilizer volatility results in ammonia and nitrous oxides release which are more potent greenhouse gases than carbon dioxide.

ActivHume™ is an Active Humic Compound and supports a much more sustainable and responsible agricultural strategy. It overcomes many of the environmental (biological, chemical and soil minerals) problems associated with common fertilizers and pesticides. ActivHume™ is not a substitute for traditional nutrients, but it works with common fertilizers or by itself to build and strengthen the natural bio-cycle within the soil as well as to improve nutrient uptake by plants.

ActivHume™ is a dry, granular material that is soluble in water. Once placed in soil, ActivHume™ begins to dissolve and work to rebuild soil structure, soil organic matter, and native minerals, stimulate microbial activity, improve moisture holding capacity, increase CEC, improve porosity/drainage and reduce soil compaction, and attract worms. The mechanisms responsible for these actions are scientifically fundamental and practically detected.

ActivHume™ is a dry Active Humic Compound granule used primarily for soil management.

Examples of ActivHume™ applications:

  • Treatment of damaged, degraded, polluted and under yielding soils
  • Blended with NPK for a complete soil and crop application
  • Combined with various soil media to aid composting and increse organic matter

ActivHume™ has many benefits depending on the application including

  • Soil
    • Increased fertilizer utilization (slow release and increased absorption by soil organic and mineral matter) resulting in less leaching
    • Increased soil organic matter content and native soil minerals
    • Converts clay and sandy soil to aggregated soil type
    • Increased soil water holding capacity
    • Increased bio-activity from native microbes and suppressed pathogens
    • Increased decomposition of agrochemical pollutants
    • Reduced soil compaction
    • Reduced impact on plants from heavy metals, pesticides and other toxins
  • Plants
    • Higher crop yields and quality
    • Increased sugar, starch, oil and protein
    • Increased stability under drought and other negative climatic and ecological conditions
    • Reduced nitrates, pesticides and heavy metals in edible produce
